Galapagos The Trip of a Lifetime

You’re invited to join in on a family trip to the Galapagos with the Kolber family, spouses, friends and loved ones celebrating Billy Kolber’s 60th birthday with a unique adventure. Follow along into the Mindo Cloud Forest of Ecuador to see the plentiful hummingbirds and then to the islands where wildlife endemic to the Galapagos surprise and enchant. The luminous photography will have you planning your trip as soon as you close the cover.

Photographer Pamela Kolber-Zicca captures not only the experience of the Galapagos through her photographs and stories but the spirit of the islands as well. A must, if you love photography and travel books, and a book that will delight the little ones in the family as well.

I’m Pamela Kolber-Zicca and Galapagos: The Trip of a Lifetime is my second book, combining photography and stories of my experiences. It takes you along on a family trip to celebrate my brother Billy’s 60th birthday. It truly was the trip of a lifetime.

This book continues an important theme that I feature in my books and on social media—the importance of getting out in the natural world. My favorite quote is this one by John Burroughs:

“I go to nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order.”

This quote speaks to me, and my appreciation of the beauty of nature that my five senses help me embrace on my daily walks. Every morning, I hear birds singing outside my bedroom window. My favorite is the Carolina Wren. I see beautiful flowers, such as purple asters, blue and pink hydrangeas, and orange butterfly weed, depending on the season. All the seasons have their own attributes, their own beauty. The snow in winter brings out the colors of the red cardinal on our bird feeder. I am fortunate to live near the Hudson River and I go down almost every day to look for a rock shaped like a heart that, when the light is right and the tide is right, magically appears.

My first book was called Nature as a Sanctuary—Seeking Refuge in the Pandemic. I spent the first few months of the pandemic photographing nature and describing how I felt being out in nature and what I did to pass the time when I couldn’t work teaching swimming as I normally would. I hope my books inspire you to get outside in nature, and to have your senses put in order by the sights, sounds, scents and textures of the natural world.

My photography has been featured at https://www.kinosaito.org and various libraries in Westchester and Putnam counties, New York. A photo I submitted to the magazine Birds and Blooms was accepted in the feature “caption this”.

I have been passionately teaching swimming and lifeguarding for over 40 years and work for Select Human Services in Pleasantville, NY as a Direct Service Provider. When I’m not out photographing nature or teaching, I can be found hanging out at home with my hubby Vinny, daughter Caroline and our dog, Mack. I like to volunteer and do so at a local entertainment venue, the Paramount Hudson Valley, in Peekskill, NY.

Please subscribe to my newsletter at http://eepurl.com/iONOSw where I highlight local nonprofits and upcoming events featuring my photography. My photography is also available framed for hanging or in card form perfect for any occasion and may be purchased at my website: https://pamzicca.crotonarts.org
