Raquel Arrechea grew up in West New York, NJ. At age nine she wrote her first story, The Bird That Couldn’t Fly, a 2021 Mom’s Choice Award (MCA) winner. She is the author of various works including A Toast to My Family, a memoir written in honor of her family, There Once Was A Time, a poem dedicated to her father and those who came before him, and Scrappy, a collection of vignettes celebrating the life of her cherished dog, Scrappy Arrechea.
Raquel served as a board member of the International Women’s Writing Guild for six years and gives back to the community through her contributions as an animal advocate and her volunteerism for the Colonel Potter Cairn Terrier Rescue Group. In 2021, Raquel was invited to serve as New Jersey’s 9th Congressional District Captain volunteer with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
