Lady On The Run

The '70s usher in the Jesus movement, the women's movement, and America's growing running movement.  Thirty-two-year old Rosie embraces the Jesus movement, but she's not interested in burning bras, or any form of exercise.  Her best friend Prissy loves Jesus, has burned a few bras, and insists that running will get them in shape. Rosie half-heartedly agrees to join her for a few two-mile runs several times a week.

Through blisters, sweat, and tears Rosie begins her journey and trains for the Los Angeles 10K race, 6.2 miles. As the miles roll by, Rosie experiences increased energy, mental wellbeing, weight loss, and other positive results, while God is showing Rosie the parallels of running her physical race and her spiritual race—at her own pace. Crossing the finish line in the Los Angeles Coliseum inspires Rosie to fulfill her new dream of running the upcoming Rose Bowl half-marathon.

When Rosie is asked to lead a running class, fear of standing in front of an audience makes her dizzy, but in spite of the f word—fear—she agrees. When Rosie begins teaching the values of running a victorious spiritual race, she faces her own personal challenges. What is she running from? and as important, What is she running to? As the Rose Bowl half-marathon looms just beyond the horizon, Rosie doubts her ability to run either race.

Author Sharon Leaf

Sharon is an author, blogger, world traveler, and former runner/faithful walker.  She has several published anthologies and two novels available on Amazon.

Born in sultry South Carolina and raised in sunny Southern California, Sharon spent her early years traveling from the west coast to the east coast many times.  She eventually returned to her southern roots on Lake Murray, South Carolina.  Her and her husband Rob have a blended family of four grown children, four grandchildren, and three great-grandboys now scattered all over the USA.

Vagabonds at heart, since turning forty, Sharon and Rob have followed their dreams of traveling to over twenty countries. They lived in Sweden, trekked through Siberia on the Trans-Siberian Railway giving humanitarian aid and encouragement to the people, and in 1994 they volunteered on the WWII ship MS Restoration for the maiden voyage from Seattle to Stockholm, whose sole purpose was to transport Russian Jews from the Black Sea to Israel. Her novel Lady and the Sea takes the reader on a journey around the world, all the while stirring the reader to follow their own personal dreams.

More recently they have traveled the USA in their 40-foot motor home to visit family and friends and volunteer with first-response organization Christ In Action.  Perhaps 'hitting-the-road in their home-on-wheels' will some day be the theme for her next novel.  Over the years Sharon has certainly learned that home is where the heart is … even in a small cabin on a WWII ship!

Sharon's other passion has always been running.  Due to a recent knee replacement (work injury) she is more of a runner/walker.  Her novel Lady on the Run tells a story about her challenging days of running in the 70s when the running craze was just beginning.  One of her highlights of her running years was when she turned sixty and ran a 5K race with her daughter and granddaughter, proving that it's never too late for another dream to come true.  Having recently turned 75, Sharon is now running toward that next adventure!
